The Water Isn’t All Gone in Colorado… not yet at least.

Thanks to Montrose Whitewater Park, we get are still surfing and paddling down the 6 waves Feb-Nov. I visited the park last weekend and it was running almost as high as the FUNC fest back in July! I went mostly for the surf, but had to do a couple downrivers and they are fast and fun right now! For the surfing all the waves were in. First, second, and third waves are best accessed river right while the last three are accessible by both sides quite easily. I was mainly surfing the third wave and it was a perfectly retentive, relatively smooth faced wave making for juicy turns.

If you’ve got a Jah, and want to get some late season surf, Montrose is the place to do it! And if you don’t have a board, head on over to Main St and visit Bill and his crew at Montrose Kayak and Surf! They can rent you everything you need for an awesome surf sesh at a super fun whitewater park. Be sure you thank Bill while you’re in there, he was a pivotal character in getting the park built.  If you need some more of the outdoors before leaving Montrose, you’re in luck! You can score a colorado triple down and bring your skateboard and disc golf bag. Riverbottom Park is right along the river across the parking lot from the river and features a fun and flowy skatepark with a fun mini street section and bowls of all sizes. Across the river from that is a fun and challenging 18 hole disc golf course, I was happy with my +4 after the front nine after surfing. One last tip… bring your wetsuit, the air temp will hover around 55-60 most fall days with a water temp around 48, in other words IT’S COLD if you don’t!
